Shaped by rain

Seattle’s people and land have always been shaped by rain

But rain running off our urban landscape causes flooding and
carries pollutants to our creeks, lakes, and Puget Sound — home to
salmon and orca whales.
What we do next matters

What we do next matters.

We all play a role in creating a resilient future where we live,
work, and play. Work with us to install projects that slow
down and soak up stormwater runoff.
Embrace the rain

Embrace the rain — RainCity

RainCity Partnerships is a new opportunity to
be part of the solution. Embrace the rain on
properties in your community.

RainCity Partnerships has solutions for impacted communities.

RainCity Partnerships is an exciting collaboration between the community, public, and private sectors known as community-based public-private partnership (CBP3).
This program will fund the design and construction of green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) retrofits in historically underserved neighborhoods to lessen the risk of floods and enhance water quality for humans, salmon and other species. We also have the opportunity to use additional funding from either grants or private sources to pay for parts of a project or program that the community thinks are important like art and gathering spaces.
We are in the pilot phase of the program which includes a 15 million dollar investment through 2028.. This phase is aimed at creating a more sustainable and resilient city.

Why Green Stormwater Infrastructure?

Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) uses the power of nature to control and reduce excess rainwater that flows over the surface. Instead of letting rain flow away, we create gardens, plant trees, and use special pavement to mimic nature and natural systems.
These solutions capture rainwater, allowing some of it to go back into the ground or evaporate naturally. Sometimes, a portion is released slowly into the sewer system. Together, these naturebased solutions reduce the chance of floods, enhance water quality, make our neighborhoods greener, and many other additional benefits!
